Red face so glad i found this site

I know this sounds horrible but reading these blogs/threads have really helped me cope knowing i'm not alone.

I think anybody who's gone through appendicitis or felt pain like it is so brave.

I dont know if this is for telling stories or asking questions but it'd be great if i could share mine and hope that it can help someone maybe? i also have a few questions and i'm sorry it's so long but its been 1.5 years now and finally an answer.

I'm 18 now but i got a laparoscopic appendicectomy when i was 16 and it's taken this long for them to believe me and diagnose me.
I'm from Scotland UK and we get free healthcare so i'm really quite lucky.

anyways, i dont think you could write this in a script and i dont know how much you're allowed to say but it went like this....

I got my appendix out in 2007, i was 16 and very fit and healthy. I'd had abdominal pain for 5 days or so until it got so bad and my bowels hadnt been moving as normal so the hospital decided it was appndicitus and took it out through keyhole (they also had a look about my ovaries and found a large cyst on one..but did'nt remove it or tell me about it)
After the op i was in agony and some of the wards were being closed because of superbugs...i got so ill i soiled the bed without realising and from then on i couldnt control any bowel movements, i also had the usual post op nausea but couldnt even keep down fluid for a good 4 days. Eventually i got home because the nurses hadnt been writing down that i was so unwell and i used it as the chance to get home and be ill there seeing as i knew i was around my own germs. (sounds silly but no words can describe the state of this ward)

At home, I was in so much pain i couldnt go to the loo without having to be carried and it was also agony to pass urine. the paper stitches (?) covering the umbilical wound moved to the side and i noticed a deep, puss filled hole that you could have poked your finger right into.... back to A&E and a nurse stuck a cottonbud into it to send it off and sent me home without dressing it let alone cleaning it!? My mum made up a saline solution to wash it out and then covered it...eventually it got smaller.... then the "dissolvable stitches" started poking through all 3 wounds and i went to my doc who snipped them and said all should be fine.

After a few weeks of cranberry juice and home made soup i went back to school before collapsing in pain (this was when i went to my docs and found out about the ovarian cyst which had burst and caused this)

i then went back to school as i was sitting my highers and had to pass english especially but was still getting these agonising pains in my abdominal area... not unlike those of the appedicitis pains?...cramping, shooting pains..you name it and very very unusual bowel movements. Long and thin shaped. I cannot count the amount of times my mum rushed me into A&E and i was told that this was all "normal"

a few months of this carried on until one night, when my umbilical wound had healed and seemed fine it burst open and huge amounts of puss and blood came pouring out so i made an emergency appointment for my doctors and she reffered me back to the hospital where, AGAIN, i was told this was "normal"..even after being kept in a few times with fecal compaction.

My gramother passed away in march 08 and this is why i remember i was rushed back in and a consultant who had dealt with me said that the large stitches deep inside me may be infected and that they had to operate but because i had a chest infection and i didnt want to miss grans funeral they said they would see me at a later date. This happened and i was sent for numerous tests before hand :

sigmoidoscopy
white cell scan
blood tests
ceoliacs tests (my mum has it) and apparently all was negative and i didnt hear back from the hospital!?

back to A&E with these pains and i was told it was all "superficial" !!!???
eventually in july 08 one night i was in the bath to help the pain and two large blue stitches popped out of the wound at my umbilical area so they finally operated and took them out....apparently this was still normal and there was no "infection" (is this possible considering the amount of pus leaking from the wound? :S) i was also told from a surgeon that some of my medical records had "Gone missing"

So this is taking ages so i'll keep the last part as short as possible. I'd been having irregular periods and still this abdominal pain (which i will admit wasnt as bad for a few months) i went to a free clinic that i knew of and was told that (after an internal ultrasound) my right ovary was a lot lower than it should be and this may be due to adhesions and i'm still awaiting to see them again about this)

I've been kept in hospital 3 times now this past 2 months.

2 of the times they said it was a bladder infection (which it turns out my urine results were fine btw) and although i couldnt control my bowels and was in agony i was fine... it later turns out my white cell count and CRP was extremely high and i later was diagnosed with Viral Meningitus by my own doctor. (I had been given a CT scan of my head plus a lumbar puncture BTW)

the 3rd time i was in i decided enough was enough and i was so upset by the whole thing i was adament i was not going to this hospital who never believed me and always seemed to keep things from me so i went to a different hospital. FINALLY they gave me a CT scan (which my mum had asked and asked for at the 1st hospital but they claimed there was no reason to!)

turnes out i have something called Stump Appendicitis (where the stump that is sometimes left in, has become inflamed)
Also tunrs out i have something called a feacolith? at the orifice of it which is like a lump of poo blocking it (in my case) that's been there so long its calcified like a kidney stone and behind it..in my stump and been an infection nd i also had a bad bladder infection. Basically, I was one step away from septicaemia.

I'm due to get it operated on later this month but to be honest i'm terrified because of everything thats happened. I dont think i could cope losing more friends over it all. I also lost 2 jobs over this time and had to drop out of my last year at school and miss out onthe university course i wanted to do.

a consultant from the 1st hospital also came to see me and was really nasty about the whole thing ad kept telling me i had to go back so HE could operate i ended up crying and a nurse and some patients complained because of what he said but what i really wanted was an apology. I know it sounds petty but at the time i was so unwell and anxious i couldnt pluck up the courage to stick up for myself and tell him how much he and others had messed up nearly 2 years of my life and that i felt i deserved at least an apology y'know?

Anyways i'm sorry this is so long and thanks for reading if you have. I'm getting it done at the better hospital by a surgeon who recently operated on my mum whos had bowel cancer so i definately trust the man and i AM happy that they've diagnosed and i now know i'm not just going loopy haha bt i was wondering: should i ask the surgeon about my ovaries and explain that too? and tel hi about those stitches that were previously mentioned?

I knew the stump appendecitis was a possibility. Sorry it happened to be you that brought it to reality. Hopefully your story will help someone else out in the future.

Good luck!

I know that the video clip of the little boy hitting the monitor was shown on E Talk Soup. But has anyone seen this on their local news or anywhere else on TV? The reason I ask is because my parents were over for Easter Sunday and my dad had told me that he saw my website on the local news here in Dallas, TX. The story was titled something like Website that terrorizes little kids and how this kind of smut needs to be removed from the internet. While I laugh at this... Im not the one showing these pranks to little kids and there are much more horrible things on the internet than my prank site. If anyone has seen this on TV or has links to news websites that mention me, please post and let me know

Thanks,
Jeremy

What a terrible ordeal! My God! I'm from the UK also although I'm currently living in New York state and I know all about the superbugs and whatnot, although that didn't seem to be your problem.

If I were you I would demand to see your medical records. By all means talk to your new surgeon. The 'missing records' sound a bit fishy to me. I used to work as a legal secretary and have worked in clinical negligence departments. If this had happened to me I would be suing, if nothing else to hopefully ensure that they are more careful with diagnosis in future.

I'm terribly sorry to hear that you have gone through so much!
