Unhappy Unreal post lap stomach pains

I had an emergency appendectomy (Lap) around the first of July, 5 months ago. I thought that I recovered quite well, that is until I began to have these awful pains in my stomach whenever I introduced anything into my stomach, food or liquids, no alcohol. The more introduced, the sharper and longer duration of the pain. The pains take me back to the unbearable pain that I experienced right before my surgery. The pains are intermitten, but all severe. My question is whether the pain is tied to the surgery. I am in terrible pain right now and can't decide to take something for it or call the surgeon to see if something is really wrong. Any suggestions?

Unhappy Sharp Pain After Lap App 2 wks

I wish I had an answer for you. I'm going through something similar. At first I thought it was gas, but it's been going on for about 3 days now. They're sharp intermittent pains. The incision site around my belly button is sore (single incision lap app 2 wks ago) and very hard. I think the hardness is just scar tissue as it doesn't seem to extend out very far and it hasn't "grown." The sharp pains come in waves and are dead center right above my belly button about 3 inches. I do think that I'm noticing an increase after eating. I'll have to be more aware today and see if that's definitely the case. This is frustrating and depressing. I thought I was doing so well and then all of a sudden, this.............

Oh wow, I'm new to this and just saw the date of your post from 2006. Sorry. Guess you figured out what the issue is by now. Anybody out there have ideas for me? Thanks!

Reports of intermittent pain post lap app are not uncommon and often a result of the gases they use to bloat your tummy for the surgery. It might also be the more human type of gas particularly since you note it is worse after eating. The first will just take some time to resolve itself ,the latter will also resolve itself over time as your bowels adjust to the shock of the surgery. However, no harm in trying some Gas-X or the like. The usual caveat is there... if things persitst or get worse then a trip to the doctor is in order.

I have the same symptoms and have not found a definitive answer yet either. Four days off the bike is my onset time and the pain is quite extraordinary. It is good incentive to ride

I have been to two GPs and a Sports Doctor and none have found a cause. I have also tried Chiropractics using the Graston technique and massage therapy.

The only suggestion so far has come from a triathlete friend who maintains it is probably an inability to clear Lactic Acid.

I am interested to hear other responses as well in hopes of finding the cause.

Abdominal pain (or stomach ache) can be one of the symptoms associated with transient disorders or serious disease. Making a definitive diagnosis of the cause of abdominal pain can be difficult, because many diseases can result in this symptom. Abdominal pain is a common problem. Most frequently the cause is benign and/or self-limited, but more serious causes may require urgent intervention.
