Unhappy PLEASE ADVISE- complications after driving :(

Hi there.

I recently had a laporoscopy and appendisectomy 9th May 2009, 6weeks ago. the nurses/doctors at the hospital never gave me any guidelines what to do after the op, how to look after the incision etc etc. Anyway, after 1 week i (stupidly) drove myslef to town and back as i felt fine. As soon as i came home, i was in incredible crippling pain on the right hand side, it felt as though i had been shot in that area, very severe pain that wouldnt go away for about a week. 2 weeks later, i STUPIDLY drove again because agen i thought i felt ok. so for the last 5 weeks i keep getting this pain continuously and i feel i am getting worse day by day. i over did it

i am so scared i have 'damaged' myself for life. i am worried that it hasnt/or isnt healed properly inside. what if i have disturbed the natural healing process inside? what if i never recover? all these questions going round and round in my head, i am worried sick.

What are the risks to the abdominal area? What about the area where the appendix was removed? How long does the site take to heal? What are the long-term far-reaching repercussions for not allowing adequate healing time for this area? will i ever be able to drive long distances again??

I would be grateful if sum1 can advise me what to do? or share their experiences/opinions if this has happend 2 u i would like to hear from you... many many thanks in advance

It takes 4-6 weeks to heal up well enough to return to normal activity. If during that time you overdo it it will just take that much longer again. However, you will get better and the likelihood of any permanent damage is small.

Give yourself some time but if the pain doesn't subside after a day or two then I would suggest a visit to the doctor just to be sure.
