Question Post op complications

Our 9 y/o daughter had an non-complicated appendectomy, laparoscopic surgery on 3/4/09. Per the surgeon the procedure went well. She was released from the Hospital on 3/7/09. At home she would have periodic episodes of pain, and ran a temperature between 99.8-100.5'. We kept in daily contact with her Doctors nurse and we're advised this was normal. On 3/16/09, her temp spiked to 102' and we returned to the ER. Her white blood cell count was @17,000+, after a CT she was admitted with an intra-abdominal access. Since her re-admission she has been given IV antibiotics (NO drain) and morphine for pain. Although her b/c is now 11,500, her temp as continued (99.8-101'). Our concern is her doctor is now recommending discharging her with oral antibiotics. We don't want her to suffer at home until her condition worsens just to have to return her to the hospital for additional treatment/surgery. Any suggestions? (Please!)

While I understand your concern most people, including children, tend to recover better at home. Seeing as you are essentially just in a monitoring phase while the antibiotics do their thing perhaps alllwiong your child to go home would actually help speed recovery. I will assume you aren't that far from a hospital should thing change for the worse.

Good luck.

We just wondered why since weve mostly been told to massage the area although not vigorously, just gently. Thanks for the clarifying post.

How many of you use slow and fast acting carbs after an intense workout session? for the past several months i have been mixing in glycomaize with my 2 scoops of protein and some glutamine after a workout, and it seems to be working well. I was wondering if anybody else had any suggestions on a post workout shake, or how effective they feel post workout carbs are
